Back to the Drawing Board

I took a break from sketchblogging last fall when a hip injury started interfering with my work. One year and one surgery later, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve left my agency job and successfully transitioned to freelance artist. I’m working for the best client in the world: my mother! Her latest book, Poems of the Night Watch, features her modern interpretation of many classical tales in both rhymed and blank verse, with each poem lavishly illustrated by yours truly.

We’ve actually been collaborating on this project for nearly 4 years, and now that I can work on it full time, I’m ready to get back to blogging and share the work in progress. This first spread, Song of Sol, is easily the most complex composition I’ve ever done. I love spending time in the sun, and Mom’s description of Sol’s persona as a jolly, Falstaff-like figure tickled me from the start. Oh, to celebrate the richness of life!
